Creativity improves health and wellbeing

Creativity helps us feel healthier and happier. This video, which was released for Mental Health Awareness Week 2022, shows the work of a group of participants in a project which aimed to improve health and social connections.

Blue but not Broken brought together a group of participants who took part in a series of creative workshops with Significant Seams artist Catherine West.

None of the makers had met before. All had recently been affected by isolation, loneliness, bereavement, caring responsibilities and physical or mental health challenges.

The project is part of a case study involving four Northern Devon towns to test how culture, health and community partners can work together to improve health and wellbeing. It was supported using public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England and by Devon County Council through TTVS. The partners are now exploring the possibility of a second phase of work.
